I'll get right down to it. I like stories. My lifelong goal is to create my own timeless fantasy epic, but like many people pursuing other such flamboyant dreams I find myself constantly caught in the gutters of life. The good news is that I'm not just sitting around making excuses anymore: I spend time writing every day, and what started out as a collection of disconnected scenes is now actually starting to look like a book. Whether this book is any good and whether it has even the slightest chance of getting published are still up in the air, but hey, I'm young, it's a start, and I have no intention of giving up.

In the meantime, I've been irreversibly drawn in by Japanese pictures.

One could say they even started this whole story fad many years ago, when I was first introduced to the likes of Ranma 1/2 and Cardcaptor Sakura at the impressionable young age of ten. One could also say that they reignited said fad several years down the line, when as a naive and empty-headed freshman I stumbled upon the infamous Sword Art Online and was swept up in an unprecedented wave of obsession. I spent the next year trying to figure out why it was the Sword Art Online had left me feeling simultaneously addicted and deeply dissatisfied, and eventually I came to the conclusion that I had no idea what good writing was or the first thing about storytelling at all really. So, I did what seemed natural, and I consumed just about every book and cartoon I could get my hands on. I like to think this was the right decision.

So now, I've got this blog thing. I wanna write, but I also wanna read and watch, so I figured why not just write some stuff about the things I read and watch? I've got a MyAnimeList profile and stuff which is a pretty convenient deal, but it doesn't really give me the space I'm looking for so here we are. I'll probably do reviews and analyses and the occasional self-gratifying list, so you can look forward to all that. I can also assure you of three things:

1. I will treat everything I say as nothing more than my own opinion. If you catch me playing the high-and-mighty critic, call me out and I'll come back down to the mud where we all frolic.

2. I'll try to be as positive as possible. We all like different stuff for different reasons. Just like above, feel free to call me out if I slip up.

3. I'll never have a waifu and if you ever ask me who Best Girl is my answer will be Kaiki so don't bother.

That's about all! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy my thoughts on anime & manga, and maybe occasionally some actual books and movies.

  1. Two things: I've never met anyone who also likes "stories." Gimme a story to dive into and I'ma happy camper (currently writing a young adult contemporary novel in my MFA program). So, I had to reach out and say hey. Second, I ADORE your sentences. You string together some wonderful words and create such lovely prose that I wish I could read your fiction. I also enjoy your views on elements of craft; tis quite refreshing to read someone else who considers such wonderful things :)

So, hello Chris! Thanks for the lovely reading experience.
